1. This agreement
These terms are the agreement between you and — not yet published — (“Astro Varuna”, “we”) covering this website and the chart application on it. By using Astro Varuna you accept them. If you do not, please do not use the service — that is the whole of the consequence, and no account is needed to walk away.
Two other sheets form part of this agreement and should be read with it: the Privacy Policy and the Disclaimer.
2. What Astro Varuna is
Astro Varuna computes Vedic astrological charts from a birth moment and presents readings drawn from classical rules: graha positions, bhavas, divisional charts, panchang, dasha periods, ashtakavarga, shadbala, yogas and doshas, guna milan, prashna and a palmistry sheet. It also lets you keep the charts you cast and put a question to a listed astrologer.
Astro Varuna is a cultural and interpretive service, not a professional one. It does not provide medical, psychological, legal, financial, employment or relationship advice, and nothing it outputs is a prediction of fact or a promise about the future. The Disclaimer sets this out fully, and it matters more than anything else on this page.
3. Who may use it
You must be at least 16 years old to create an account, or older if the law where you live requires it. If you are using Astro Varuna on behalf of an organisation, you confirm you are authorised to accept these terms for it.
4. Your account
Casting charts needs no account. One is required only to keep a collection of saved charts and to hold a consultation thread.
- Give a real email address you control — it is how we would reach you about your account.
- Choose a password of at least eight characters, and do not reuse one from elsewhere.
- Keep your credentials to yourself. Anything done from a signed-in session is treated as done by you, so tell us promptly if you think someone else has access.
- One account per person. Do not create accounts by automated means.
5. Acceptable use
While using Astro Varuna, please do not:
- send automated or bulk requests, scrape the site, or work around the rate limits — the calculation is the expensive part of this service and it is shared with everyone else;
- attempt to gain access to another person’s account, charts or consultation threads, or to any part of the system you were not given;
- upload or enter another person’s details without a proper basis for doing so (see the privacy policy);
- abuse, threaten or harass an astrologer, or anyone else you reach through the service;
- present Astro Varuna’s output as professional advice, as a diagnosis, or as a guarantee — to anyone, for any purpose;
- copy, resell or republish substantial parts of the interface, the written readings or the reference material as your own product;
- interfere with the service, probe it for vulnerabilities without permission, or introduce malicious code.
If you find a security problem, we would rather hear about it than read about it. Write to us and give us a reasonable chance to fix it.
6. What you enter stays yours
The birth details, chart names, notes and questions you enter remain yours. You give us only the permission we need to run the service for you: to store them, to compute with them, to show them back to you, and to pass what you attach to an astrologer you deliberately write to.
That permission ends when you delete the content or close your account. We do not use what you enter to train anything, and we do not publish it.
7. Consultations with astrologers
Astrologers listed on Astro Varuna practise in named traditions and answer in their own words. Their readings are their opinions, given in a cultural and interpretive capacity. We do not verify, endorse or adopt what any astrologer tells you, and a consultation creates no professional relationship of any kind.
A consultation is not an emergency service and must never be used as one. If you are in crisis, or in danger, or need medical help, contact your local emergency number or a qualified professional.
Astrologers see the chart summary you attach and the messages you send in that thread, and nothing else about you.
8. Our side of it
The software, the interface, the drawings, the written explanations and the arrangement of the reference material are ours or our licensors’, and are protected by copyright. The classical material Astro Varuna draws on is a shared inheritance and we claim nothing over it — but our particular expression of it is not free for the taking. You may read, print and share a chart or a reading for your own use; you may not republish the app’s content as a product.
9. Availability and changes to the service
Astro Varuna is offered free of charge today and there is nothing to buy on this site. We may add paid features later; if we do, you will be told clearly before anything is charged, and nothing you already have will be taken behind a paywall retroactively.
We do not promise that the service will be available without interruption. We may change, suspend or discontinue any part of it, and we will give reasonable notice where we can. If we ever shut the service down, we will give you a fair chance to export the charts you saved.
10. No warranty
Astro Varuna is provided “as is”. We take real care with the arithmetic — the ayanamsha, the bhava system and the node type are printed on every chart precisely so that the result can be checked against another engine — but we do not warrant that every figure or interpretation is free of error, nor that the service will meet your expectations.
To the extent the law allows, we exclude implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. Nothing here removes rights you have as a consumer that cannot be removed by agreement.
11. Limitation of liability
We are not liable for any decision you make, or do not make, on the strength of anything Astro Varuna computes or displays. Astrology is not evidence, and a chart is not a basis for a consequential choice.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, loss of profit, loss of opportunity, or loss of data. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you have paid us in the twelve months before the claim — which, for a free service, will usually be nothing.
Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited.
12. Suspension and closing an account
You may stop using Astro Varuna at any time and ask us to close your account; everything attached to it goes with it.
We may suspend or close an account that breaks section 5, that puts the service or other users at risk, or that we are required to act on by law. Where it is reasonable to do so, we will tell you why and give you a chance to put it right first.
13. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The date at the top of the page moves when we do, and a material change will be notified to account holders rather than left to be discovered. If you keep using Astro Varuna after a change takes effect, the new version applies; if you do not accept it, close your account.
14. Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of — not yet published —, and the courts there have jurisdiction over any dispute — except that if you are a consumer, you keep the right to bring proceedings in the courts of the country where you live, and to rely on the protections its law gives you.
