Astro Varuna is named directly for what the application helps you explore.
Astro Varuna is a Vedic astrology application that does the arithmetic properly and then tells you how it got there. It is built on the conviction that a tradition is better served by precision and candour than by mystique.
Why it exists
Most astrology software falls into one of two shapes. Either it is a calculator that prints a wall of numbers and leaves the reading entirely to you, or it is a consumer app that skips the calculation and hands you a paragraph written months ago for somebody with your sun sign. The first is honest but unusable; the second is usable but not honest.
Astro Varuna is an attempt at the third thing. The chart is computed from first principles — sidereal longitudes, whole-sign bhavas, divisional charts derived from the same longitudes rather than approximated from the rashi chart. The reading is assembled from classical rules, and each statement names the factor behind it. You can follow the whole path from a birth moment to a sentence, and stop wherever you stop agreeing.
What it will not do is overclaim. The arithmetic is exact and checkable; the interpretation is a tradition, not a finding. The disclaimer says so in full, and it is there because we mean it, not because a lawyer asked for it.
Every one of these is checkable from the app itself, which is the only kind of claim worth putting on a page like this.
What we hold to
Six rules that decide most arguments about this app before they start.
Every position on an Astro Varuna sheet comes from an ephemeris and the ayanamsha you chose — not from a rounded table, not from another app's output, and not from a pre-written answer keyed on your sun sign.
A statement in a reading carries the factor that produced it: this yoga, that lord in that house, the dasha running now. If you disagree with a reading you can see exactly which step to disagree with.
Where the classical rules are silent, the panel leaves the space empty and says why. A confident sentence with nothing under it is worse than a gap, and far easier to write.
Ayanamsha, bhava system and node type are printed on every chart, so a screenshot can always be checked against another engine. A result you cannot audit is a result you have to take on faith.
Names arrive from the engine in Devanagari, IAST and English at once, so switching script is a change of letters rather than a translation, and nothing is lost by reading in Hindi.
Casting a chart needs no account. Nothing is stored until you save it. There is no analytics on this site and nothing to buy on it.

A wrong figure is a bug, and a reading that overstates the tradition is also a bug. Both are worth an email.
