Privacy Policy

Last updated 12 September 2026Applies to the Astro Varuna website and app
A birth time and place is about as personal as data gets. This page says exactly which fields Astro Varuna stores, why it holds each one, how long it keeps them, who else can see them, and how to have them removed — without a single sentence of the kind that is written to be skipped.

1. What this policy covers

This policy describes what — not yet published — (“Astro Varuna”, “we”) does with personal data when you use the Astro Varuna website and the chart application at /kundli. It covers the birth details you enter, the account you may create, the charts you save, and the consultations you may start.

It does not cover anything you do on another company’s website, even if you reached it from a link here.

Two things are worth saying before the detail, because they shape everything below: casting a chart requires no account, and a chart is stored only when you ask for it to be stored.

2. What we collect, field by field

The list below is the whole of it. It is written from the data model the service actually runs on rather than from a template, so if a field is not named here, it is not kept.

WhatFieldsWhen
AccountYour verified mobile number and a one-way hash of your password, never the password itself; display name, if you give one; your role; and the date you last signed in. Older accounts may also have an email address.Only if you create an account
Sign-in sessionA hash of the session token, the account it belongs to, its expiry, and the browser’s user-agent string.Each time you sign in
Saved chartThe name you gave it, gender if set, your notes, the birth date and time with its time zone and time standard, and the birth place — name, latitude, longitude, elevation and zone — plus the calculation options used.Only when you press save
ConsultationThe subject, the astrologer you addressed, the messages either side wrote, and a short summary of the chart you attached — name, lagna, birth, place and the dasha running. An astrologer who takes up your question is shown your name and, where you signed in with one, your mobile number, so they can reach you if the conversation is cut short. A question nobody has taken up yet shows neither. Once a consultation ends — because you ended it, because the astrologer did, or because it sat unanswered for half an hour — it moves to your history, and neither you nor the astrologer is shown its messages again. Your history keeps that the consultation happened, with whom and how long it ran, and none of what was said in it. The messages themselves stay in our database, out of reach of both of you but not of us; ask us and we will delete them.Only if you start a thread
Astrologer profileTitle, biography, the systems and languages you practise in, your focus areas, years of practice, whether you are available, and the profile photograph required during astrologer onboarding. This part is public, the photograph included — it is shown to anyone choosing an astrologer. Remove it from your dashboard and it is deleted.Only if you are a listed astrologer
Chart in flightA chart you cast without saving is held against a random key for one hour so the sheets can read it, then it is gone.Every cast
Server logsOrdinary operational records kept by our hosting and database providers — request time, path, response status, and the IP address the request came from.Every request

We do not collect payment details, because there is nothing to buy. We ask for a mobile number only as a way to sign in and as the way an astrologer reaches you about a consultation — never to send you anything else, and it is never sold or shared with anyone but the astrologer holding your consultation. We do not ask for a postal address, and there is nothing for you to upload anywhere on this site — the palmistry sheet is a form you fill in about your hand, not a photograph you send us. The only picture Astro Varuna stores is the one an astrologer chooses to put on their own public profile, from their own dashboard.

3. Birth details, and how we treat them

A birth date, an exact birth time and a birth place identify a person more precisely than most things they will ever type into a form. Some people also consider the fact that they consult astrology to be private in itself. We treat all of it as sensitive, whether or not the law where you live classifies it that way.

In practice that means:

  • Birth details are never used to advertise anything, here or anywhere else.
  • They are never sold, rented, or shared with a data broker. There is no such market we participate in.
  • They are not used to train anything. No model is fitted on your chart, your notes or your messages.
  • A chart you cast and do not save leaves no stored record beyond the one-hour working copy described above.

4. Charts about other people

Most people cast a chart for somebody else before long — a child, a parent, a partner, a match being considered. That is a normal use of this app and it is not discouraged.

It does mean you are giving us another person’s details, so two things follow. You are responsible for having a proper basis to do that — their agreement, or your responsibility for them as a parent or guardian. And if that person asks us to remove what is held about them, we will act on it, which may mean deleting a chart from your collection. We will tell you if that happens.

5. Why we hold each thing

  • To cast the chart you asked for. The birth details are the input to the calculation; without them there is nothing to compute.
  • To keep you signed in. The session record is what makes the next page load know it is still you.
  • To keep the charts you saved. A collection that forgot its contents would not be one.
  • To carry a consultation. A question addressed to an astrologer has to reach them, and their answer has to reach you.
  • To keep the service up and safe. Logs and rate limits are how we notice an outage or an attack.

If you are in the UK or the EEA, the lawful bases are: contract for your account, your saved charts and your consultations; legitimate interests for security, abuse prevention and keeping the service running; and consent for anything optional stored in your browser, which today is the theme preference alone. Where we rely on consent you may withdraw it at any time and it takes effect immediately.

If you are in India, we process your personal data for the lawful purpose of providing the service you asked for, and you may withdraw a consent you gave as easily as you gave it — the cookie card and your account settings are both one click away.

6. Cookies and browser storage

Three cookies, two stored keys, and no third-party tag of any kind. Each one is named, described and given its lifetime in the Cookie Policy.

There is no analytics on this site — no page-view counter, no session recorder, no advertising pixel, no social widget that phones home. The web fonts are served from this site rather than from a font network, so loading a page contacts nobody but us.

.

7. Who can see your data

You. Your saved charts are scoped to your account on the server, not merely hidden in the interface.

An astrologer you write to. When you start a consultation you attach a summary of the chart — the name on it, the lagna, the birth moment, the place and the running dasha — and that astrologer can read it along with everything you write in the thread. They cannot browse your collection, and they see nothing about you until you address them.

The providers that run the service. A hosting provider and a database provider, each acting on our instructions under a contract, and nothing more than they need to keep the service running.

Nobody else. We do not sell personal data, we do not share it for advertising, and we have no arrangement under which a third party receives it for their own purposes. If we are ever compelled to disclose something by a valid legal order, we will tell you unless we are prohibited from doing so.

8. How long we keep it

  • A chart you did not save — one hour, as a working copy, then it is discarded.
  • A saved chart — until you delete it, or until you delete your account.
  • A session — thirty days at most, and one day if you did not ask to stay signed in. Expired sessions are removed automatically.
  • Consultation threads — until you delete them or close your account.
  • Your account — until you ask us to close it. We act on that within 30 days.
  • Server logs — a short operational window, typically measured in weeks, after which they are rotated away.

9. How it is protected

  • Passwords are stored as one-way hashes. We cannot read yours, and neither can anyone who takes a copy of the database.
  • Session tokens are stored hashed as well, in a cookie the browser will not let a script read, and they expire on a schedule rather than on trust.
  • Traffic to the site and the API is encrypted in transit.
  • Every request for a saved chart is checked against its owner on the server.

No service can promise perfect security, and we will not pretend otherwise. If a breach ever affects your data we will tell you and the relevant authority, promptly and in plain terms.

10. Your rights

You can ask us to:

  • show you what we hold about you;
  • correct anything that is wrong;
  • delete your account and everything attached to it;
  • give you a copy of your charts in a portable form;
  • stop a particular use you object to;
  • withdraw a consent you gave.

Most of these you can do yourself inside the app: a chart can be renamed or deleted from your collection, and a cookie choice can be changed from any page. For the rest, write to us and we will answer within 30 days.

If you think we have handled your data badly, please tell us first — but you are entitled to complain to your data protection authority without doing so. The relevant authority is the one for the country you live in.

11. Children

Astro Varuna is not designed for children and we do not knowingly create accounts for anyone under 16 — or under 18, where the law where you live sets that higher for consent.

A chart cast about a child by their parent or guardian is a different thing, and it is expected: a janma kundli is traditionally cast at birth. In that case the details belong to the adult’s account, and the responsibility described in section 4 applies.

12. Where your data is held

Our servers and database are operated by providers who may hold data in a country other than yours. Where personal data leaves the UK or the EEA, the transfer is made under the standard contractual clauses or an equivalent approved safeguard, and we will name the provider and the region on request.

13. Changes to this policy

When this policy changes in a way that affects you, the date at the top of the page moves and we will say what changed. If the change is material and you have an account, we will tell you directly rather than leaving you to notice. Continuing to use Astro Varuna after a change means the new version applies.

14. Contact

Write to us about anything on this page — a request, a correction, or a question about a sentence that is not clear enough.

The data controller is — not yet published —.

This sheet is written to be read, not to be survived. If any part of it is unclear, write to us and we will answer in the same plain terms — see Contact.
