1. The short version
Astro Varuna sets three cookies, all of them its own, and keeps two keys in your browser’s local storage. That is the complete list; it is written out below with lifetimes.
There is no analytics on this site. No page-view counter, no session recorder, no heatmap, no advertising pixel, no social share widget, no tag manager. The web fonts are served from this site rather than from a font network, so loading a page contacts nobody but us.
2. The cookies
| Name | Category | What it does | Lifetime |
|---|---|---|---|
patra_session | Strictly necessary | Holds your sign-in. It carries a random token and nothing about you; the server matches a hash of it to a session row. Marked HttpOnly, so no script on the page can read it. | 30 days — or until you close the browser, if you did not ask to stay signed in |
patra_chart | Strictly necessary | A random key pointing at the chart you have just cast, so that moving between the twenty sheets reads one computed chart instead of casting it again. It contains no birth details itself. | 1 hour |
patra_consent | Strictly necessary | Remembers the answer you gave the cookie card, so you are not asked on every page. It stores the version of the question, which optional categories you allowed, and the date you answered. | 180 days |
All three are first-party cookies set by Astro Varuna. None is readable by another site, and none is used to follow you across the web.
3. What is kept in browser storage
These are not cookies — they are never sent to the server, and they stay in this browser on this device. They are listed anyway, because the distinction matters to lawyers and not to you.
| Key | Category | What it does | Lifetime |
|---|---|---|---|
patra-theme | Preferences | Whether you chose the light theme, the dark theme, or to follow your system. It is replayed before the first paint so the page does not flash the wrong ground. | Until you change it, decline preferences, or clear your browser |
patra-sidenav | Preferences | Whether you folded the section sidebar on a chart page to icons or kept it open. | Until you change it, decline preferences, or clear your browser |
patra-chat-draft | Strictly necessary | A question written out for you (from Kundli Milan's “Talk to an astrologer”), held for this tab only so it is still in the chat box after you sign in. | Until the chat opens with it, or the tab is closed |
patra-chat-thread | Strictly necessary | The identifier of the consultation thread you have open, so the chat panel reopens the conversation you were in rather than starting a new one. | Until you sign out, which clears it |
4. The three categories
Strictly necessary
Without these there is no signing in, no chart to read across the sheets, and no memory of your cookie answer. They are not offered as a choice, because switching them off would mean switching the service off. They are declared here instead.
Preferences
Convenience, and refusable: today this is the light-or-dark choice alone. If you decline it, the theme still changes when you change it — it simply is not remembered for next time, and anything already stored under this category is deleted the moment you decline.
Analytics
None. Astro Varuna measures nobody, so this category is empty and its switch has nothing to turn on. It is named rather than hidden for one reason: if that ever changes, the change has to be visible here and on the card, and your answer has to be asked for again before anything is set.
5. Third parties
There are none. No third party sets a cookie on this site, no third-party script runs on any page, and nothing here is shared with an advertising network — there is no advertising on Astro Varuna at all. If that ever changes, this section changes with it and you will be asked again before anything is set.
6. Changing your mind
The card that asked can be reopened from the footer of every page on this site, and from here:
Your answer is recorded with the version of the question it answered. If the categories ever change meaning, that version moves and the card comes back — an old answer is never stretched to cover a new question.
7. Blocking cookies in your browser
Every browser can block or clear cookies, and you are entitled to use that rather than our card. It is worth knowing what breaks:
- Block
patra_sessionand you cannot stay signed in — the collection and consultations become unreachable. - Block
patra_chartand each sheet has to recast the chart, which is slower but still works. - Block
patra_consentand the cookie card will ask again on every visit, because there is nowhere to record that it already asked. - Clear local storage and the theme choice is forgotten. Nothing else is lost.
Casting a chart works in a browser that blocks everything, which is the way it should be.
8. Questions
Anything unclear on this page — or a cookie you have seen that is not listed on it — goes to us. The list above is meant to be complete, and if it is not, we want to know.
This sheet is written to be read, not to be survived. If any part of it is unclear, write to us and we will answer in the same plain terms — see Contact.
